Nice News: Those Crazy Bumps On Centre St. Flattened

It was a tough call: We love our trees, but we need accessible sidewalks that don't force people with walkers or strollers out into the street.

It has long seemed like an either-or, because tree roots created big bumps in the sidewalk and narrowed the area for passage.

But on Oct. 20, town workers fully flattened out most of those areas, and said a solution is under way for the corner of Shailer and Centre that will likely involve some kind of workaround using a parking spot.

What took so long? One worker said the town highway department is very under-staffed these days. That does not seem to fully explain, though, why previous efforts did not fully flatten the bumps.
